BIG BIKE WEEKEND--WHO WE ARE
OUR MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Big Bike
Weekend is to provide a fun, safe, and
entertaining motorcycle event for riders of all types of motorcycles and their peers, friends,
and families; to educate and entice the general
public about motorcycles and the motorcycle lifestyle; and to enrich the community by providing a
quality activity in which to participate.
SOME HISTORY:
Big Bike Weekend is a motorcycle event that caters to bikers AND their families. Established
in 2000, this year's event
will mark Big Bike Weekend's 8th year in Redding. Big Bike Weekend is now a California
nonprofit, tax exempt 501(c)(4) corporation. We look forward to expanding the activities
for riders and non-riders while making charitable contributions to outstanding nonprofits who
serve our community. We appreciate the support and confidence of the City of Redding in
facilitating the transition of this event ot a nonprofit organization.
SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY:
In addition to direct support of nonprofits such as the ones listed below, we are proud
to announce the establishment of the BIG BIKE WEEKEND COMMUNITY FUND established at the
Shasta Regional Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public benefit corporation.
100 percent of the proceeds from our raffle sales and a portion of the general admission will go
into the fund. The fund was established to provide grants to qualified organizations.
Donations to the Big Bike Weekend Community Fund are tax deductible.
Big Bike Weekend is a proud sponsor
of the
Record Searchlight's
Nespapers in Education program. N.I.E. brings the Record
Searchlight newspaper
into the classroom as a supplement to existing educational plans and as a living textbook.
This
worthwhile educational program includes free teaching materials and lesson plans designed to
work
with the Record Searchlight newspaper.
Each year, with the cooperation of Big Bike Weekend, the Redding chapter of Harley Owners
Group
conducts its annual H.O.G. Chili Cook-Off after Sunday's poker run. Aside from offering
poker
run participants a delicious bowl of homemade chili, 100% of all proceeds from this popular
event go to support the
Shasta County Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy
Association.
Also, Big Bike Weekend is delighted to support the
Alyssa Araiza
Wings of Angels program. This organization, dedicated
to children with cancer and serious illness, was founded in May 2002 to honor the memory of
a courageous and beautiful Redding girl who died shortly after her ninth birthday after a
five year
battle with cancer. The goal at "Wings of Angels" is to help families who are
required to travel out of the area for treatment in ways other organizations do not.
To kick off the week of this year's Big Bike Weekend, a Texas Hold'Em Tournament will be held
at the Casino Club on Hilltop Drive in Redding. All monies raised will fund scholarships of
Enterprise High School students attending Shasta College. We are proud to support the Andy Allison
Memorial Scholarship Fund.
In November 2004, Big Bike Weekend happily donated 70 turkeys to the "Stuff the Truck"
food drive at Food Maxx! The turkeys were then presented to the Good News Rescue Mission
in Redding.
THE COMMITTEE: The Big Bike Weekend committee is made up of a
group
of men and women in Redding who love motorcycles and love to ride. This committee works on
a volunteer basis, receiving no payment or compensation for the time they spend planning this
great event.
The Big Bike Weekend Committee is currently made up of civic leaders and representatives of
the following motorcycle associations:
Blue Knights, Chapter 3
GWTA/Shascade Wings, Chapter 0
Motor Maids
Redding Dirt Riders
Redding Harley Owners Group
STAR Touring and Riding Association, Redding #302
As the size of the event grows, so should the committee. Each year, the current
committee is charged with finding enthusiastic and persuasive leaders to head up sub-committees
and volunteers that cover each aspect of the event. If you are
interested in acting as a
committee member or a volunteer for Big Bike Weekend, please contact
Connie Grinols, Committee Chair,
